Card Making Supplies

There are a few card making supplies you will need to get started making your own handmade greeting cards. Don't overlook things that you may already have on hand, such as bags with nice designs, wrapping paper, small pieces of leftover decorative paper or fabrics, even brown paper bags that you could design on by drawing, stamping or gluing an embellisment on.

You will need a few basic tools to get started, card stock, scissors, straight edge and decorative, ruler, cutting mat, craft knife, paper punches, rubber stamps, tweezers, glue and double sided tape. As you get more involved in making cards the ideas are endless and you could start adding on with alot more tools and supplies.

Stuck for ideas for making a card?

Everyone goes through the same feeling at times. Even if you have been making cards for years.

Relax, pickup a magazine. Magazines are an excellent way to get ideas for cards by looking at the way rooms are decorated with different accent pieces. Look at card galleries on the internet, find some store bought cards that you have and study them. Look at how the are assembled, the types of and combinations of materials used to create them.

Once you come up with a style that you like figure out the colors you would like to use.

Take a notebook and rough sketch the card design you are thinking of. It is a lot easier making changes before you start cutting. This way you can make a few different sketches and choose which you like better. It only takes a couple minutes to sketch a few different ideas.

Once you have your card design you can start gathering you materials you need, start measuring, cutting and assembling.
